A Message from the Executive Director

Lou Tedeschi, Executive Director

Hello fellow dealers,

President Theodore Roosevelt famously once stated, “Every man owes a part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere.” This quote also serves as the response to the question, “Why should I belong to SNEIDA?”

It can sometimes be challenging to recall the founding principles of associations or to recognize them as more than just another entity vying for your attention and resources. However, when we reflect on the origins of these organizations, we understand that they arise from a collective recognition of shared values and interests within an industry. For those entering the business world, professional associations can serve as invaluable allies, offering guidance through regulatory complexities and legal obligations specific to your field.

Advocacy often stands as the primary service provided by associations. Strength lies in numbers, and many associations are founded on the premise of providing a unified voice for their members. An organization’s influence grows with its membership, enhancing both representation and negotiating power. In today’s political landscape, being part of the conversation is crucial, as the saying goes, “Be at the table or be on the menu.”

Beyond contributing to and benefiting from the association’s efforts to enhance industry conditions, many associations offer additional perks beyond advocacy and networking. Leveraging collective purchasing power, members can secure better pricing and discounts from industry suppliers. It’s essential to explore the range of benefits negotiated on behalf of members by your association.

Professional development is another cornerstone benefit offered by most associations. Continuing education is vital for maintaining competitiveness, and many associations offer programs to keep members abreast of industry regulations and trends. Additionally, certifications and continuing education credits are often attainable through association channels.

Associations also facilitate invaluable networking opportunities, connecting members with industry peers locally, nationally, and globally. Peer-to-peer learning and collaboration foster growth and innovation within the community, making membership a gateway to expanding professional horizons.

Joining your professional association should be a straightforward decision. Just as it’s inconceivable for a doctor not to be a member of the American Medical Association, participation in your industry association is crucial. Run by individuals with shared interests and objectives, these associations are dedicated to advocating for your benefit. Yet, many individuals overlook this opportunity, leaving others to bear the responsibility and cost. Don’t be among those who pass up on this opportunity.

Take the step to join your professional association today. By actively engaging with the programs and resources offered, you’ll find the decision to be immensely rewarding.

Sincerely,
