I opened my business in 1991 and for a few years wondered where to gain insight in the industry: What trends to follow, how to navigate acquisition of inventory, and the most efficient ways to distribute as well as dissolve it. What advertising was available and the best ways to track inventory, sales, and margins. I joined MIADA/SNEIADA and found out just how much information was available as well as meet others who share the same path. I also discovered what the association does in the background. Legislation keeps fellow dealers in compliance as well as safe. I’ve attended many annual meetings, both locally and nationally, and come away with a wealth of knowledge for trends, finance, marketing and tracking the inside walls of my business. I have met personnel from many companies whom I have dealt with for years. So, the question becomes, why haven’t you joined and what are you missing by not being up to date with the vast number of changes that have already happened as well as what is in store for the independents of this fine industry. We joined the association in 2003 after having issues opening a second location for my dealership. The first year as a member I was able to save over $8,000 on my garage keepers policy and bond. As the years went on, I couldn’t believe that we hadn’t been a member of the association for the first 18 years in business. Had I known of all the benefits the association offered, I would have been a member sooner. I have taken advantage of all the education the national affiliation offers as well as the products and services. This is the best business decision of my career. I have received so much benefit from the Association that I joined the Board of Directors for MIADA/SNEIADA and eventually became a member of the National Board of Directors for 14 years. I served as President for the NIADA in 2021. As a dealer you don’t know what you don’t know. Join the association so you can find out what it is that you don’t know.
