Verification Reminder! Certificate of Title from MRMV
Dear Business Partner:
As a valued business partner of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), we want to remind you of an important step in verifying the “Vehicle Title Status” to ensure that vehicle transactions are completed correctly and efficiently.
Certificate of Title – Verification Reminder
When a customer provides an original paper Massachusetts Certificate of Title for a vehicle being traded in, the Title must be verified. This ensures customers have the correct Title before any action with any transactions.
- Verifying the Title also helps prevent issues or delays, such as customers submitting the original Title when trading in their vehicles after applying for a duplicate Title, which would render their original Title void.
- Checking the Status of your Vehicle’s Title ensures that a duplicate Title was not ordered by the customer before the original Title is reassigned to the dealer.
Note: If a duplicate Title has been ordered by the customer at any time, the original Title will be VOID.
How to Verify the Title?
- Go to myRMV Online Service Center
- Scroll down to “Certificate of Title” and select “Title and Lienholder Status.”
- Enter Vehicle Information:
- Enter the last 8 digits of the VIN.
- Enter the Massachusetts Certificate of Title number.
OR
- Select the ‘I don’t have my title number’ option.
- Enter the full VIN.
Note: If no information returns via the myRMV Online Service Center, or, if the Title number that returns is different from the Title submitted, you do not have the correct Massachusetts Certificate of Title.
